As your celebrant and by choosing a Humanist Naming Celebration, my role is to create a unique and meaningful ceremony that perfectly captures your family’s spirit. I’m Louise, and I specialize in crafting unforgettable Humanist naming ceremonies right here in Leeds, Yorkshire, and Manchester.

Tell me about your family

We all have a story to tell – and it begins with me booking a convenient time for you to share it with me.

I take the time to learn about your family’s journey, your values, and your expectations for the big day. We’ll also discuss any unique traditions or elements you’d like to include.

This allows me to ensure that your ceremony not only celebrates your child but also tells your family’s unique story.

Let me lovingly craft your perfect naming ceremony.

I will design a stunning and fitting ceremony which brings together the moments, feelings, music and other elements—truly capturing the story and personalities of the people involved in a beautiful, totally original and personal way.

I understand that a naming ceremony is more than just an event; it’s a significant milestone that brings together family, friends, and community. With my extensive experience, I’m adept at engaging your guests and making them feel an integral part of the joyous occasion.

I’m not only here to lead your ceremony but also to help with the logistical details. I can offer advice on structuring the ceremony, selecting readings, choosing music, and even coordinating the involvement of siblings, grandparents, or godparents.

You will (of course!) have the opportunity to review and amend the ceremony so that you are entirely comfortable and love the content.

Special Family Moments are captured forever.

You may also like to include a symbolic element such as tree planting, a memory box, or poems or music. Again the possibilities are endless for a truly unique and significant day.

You’ll get a presentation script of the ceremony as a keepsake. Plus, a naming certificate for you, your loved ones and the children.

What’s the cost of a naming ceremony?

My fee for a ceremony typically begins from £250.

I do naming ceremonies in Leeds, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester and the UK.

As a Humanist UK celebrant of naming ceremonies, I usually work in my local areas. However, I am more than happy to travel further afield.

Expenses are charged at standard HMRC rates of 45p/mile. I ask for a non-refundable deposit of £50 to secure a date, with the balance due the week of the ceremony.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have special circumstances around the naming ceremony or need to discuss fees.

“Louise is an outstanding ambassador for Humanists UK, and I cannot recommend her services highly enough.”

Frequently Asked Questions about Naming Ceremonies

What is a naming ceremony?

A naming ceremony is a non-religious celebration to welcome and officially introduce a new child to the family and community. It’s a personalized event that can include readings, promises, and symbolic actions.

Where can a naming ceremony be held?

Naming ceremonies can be held at various venues – from your home to a garden, a community hall, or even a park. As your celebrant, I am flexible and will work with you to choose the perfect location.

What happens during a naming ceremony?

Each naming ceremony is unique. Generally, it may include a formal naming of the child, readings or poems, commitments from parents and appointed guide-parents, and a symbolic action such as planting a tree. As your celebrant, I will work closely with you to design a ceremony that reflects your wishes and values.

How far in advance should we book our naming ceremony?

I recommend booking as soon as you have decided on a date for your ceremony. This ensures availability and gives us plenty of time to plan and personalise the event.

Who can have a naming ceremony?

Anyone can have a naming ceremony! It’s not just for newborns – it’s also perfect for adoptive families, stepfamilies, or any family wishing to celebrate their unique bond.

How long does a naming ceremony last?

Typically, a naming ceremony lasts around 20-30 minutes. However, it can be tailored to suit your family’s needs and preferences.

Do we need to have godparents?

Not at all. While some families choose to include godparents, others opt for ‘guide-parents’, ‘mentors’, ‘special friends’, or ‘supporting adults. It’s completely up to you!
